The author provides a new and elementary proof of a result regarding the equator map given by Jäger and Kaul [\textit{W. Jäger} and \textit{H. Kaul}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 343, 146-161 (1983; Zbl 0516.35032)]. An extension of this result to the case of \(p\)-harmonic maps is also given.
