The author investigates the chaotic nature of the gravitational \(n\)-body problem. The stability of the separation of phase trajectories in various directions is related to eigenvalues of the corresponding matrix of force gradients. Numerical experiments are conducted for the 100-body case. The author presents an approximate method for the estimation of the rate of trajectory separation for on average \(1,2n\) unstable directions out of \(3n\) detected.
