This paper deals with the important phenomenon of vibration absorption, i.e. with dissipative free suppression of vibrations. The authors present a study how to use the saturation phenomenon to design nonlinear vibration absorbers and how to improve their stability and effective frequency bandwidth. They start from the original saturation control method which uses the 2:1 internal resonance, and employ the saturation phenomenon to suppress steady state oscillations by connecting the system to a second-order controller using quadratic position coupling terms. The improvement presented in this paper is achieved by using quadratic velocity terms in the controller and by adding negative velocity feedback to the system. This is an interesting paper because, besides the improvement, the authors also give a comparison with linear absorbers and treat as example an excited cantilever steel beam.
