A hinge-ended elastic column, laterally supported by an elastic support at the center, is considered. The author investigates the secondary bifurcation and stability of postbuckling states for such columns using his previous results [\textit{B. Wu}, ibid. 23, No. 1, 29-34 (1996; Zbl 0843.73038)] on the double \(Z_{2}\)-symmetric elastic systems. A new postbuckling behaviour and secondary buckling are found.
