\textit{F. Hansen} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 125, No. 7, 2093-2102 (1997; Zbl 0870.47013)] gave a characterization of operator convex functions in terms of Jensen's operator inequality. Following investigations by \textit{S. Friedland} and \textit{M. Katz} [Linear Algebra Appl. 85, 185-190 (1987; Zbl 0612.15010)], the author presents a simple proof of this result for matrices.
