The shaping of Dedekind's rigorous mathematics: what do Dedekind's drafts tell us about his ideal of rigor? (Q1981993)

Richard Dedekind's ideal of rigor is thoroughly examined in this work. The author starts with examining Dedekind's published works and then turns to the writing in his \textit{Nachlass}. She chooses a specific law of the \textit{Dualgruppe} to show that while the research work itself lacks rigor the final results are rigorously presented anyway. Finally, the connection between Dedekind's standards of rigor and his research work is discussed.
