This paper proposes a compression method for electrocardiogram signals. The compression step uses the Douglas-Peucker algorithm with threshold value \(\epsilon\). Decompression is based on fractal interpolation. The compression ratio (CR) in the compressed signal and the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in the reconstructed signal depend on \(\epsilon\). Numerical tests based on signals from PhysioNet range from a CR \(\approx 3\) with PSNR \(\approx 55\) to CR \(\approx 27\) with PSNR \(\approx 36\).
