This book treats flexible mechanical systems in a methodical way. Since it is dedicated to a specific mechanical problems, it contains chapters with presentation of necessary theoretical topics that are needed for analysis of dynamic and vibration control for different flexible mechanical systems. The main objectives of the book, as the authors state, are to introduce readers to the design method and MATLAB simulation of boundary control. The book contains 10 chapters. In the first three chapters theoretical background is presented, both mathematical and mechanical. The following six chapters treat the specific flexible structures and the last chapter presents the conclusion. The specific problems that are treated are: boundary control for flexible satellite with input constraint, PDE modeling and basic vibration control for flexible aerial refueling hose, vibration control of a flexible aerial refueling hose with input saturation, deadzone compensation based boundary control for flexible aerial refueling hose with output constraint, modeling and vibration control of a flexible aerial refueling hose with variable lengths and input constraint, dynamic modeling and vibration control for a nonlinear three-dimensional flexible manipulator. As could be seen, the problems arising in mechanical behavior of Flexible Aerial Refueling Hose is the central problem that is treated in the book. The book is well written. The references to important works are given. Solutions using MATHLAB are presented in detail. Although this book treats very specific problems, it may be useful to researchers and graduate students working in the field of structural stability.
