In the introduction the author explains that the Hausdorff distance is not always a suitable metric when working with unbounded subsets of a metric space. A new metric on the set of all closed subsets of a metric space is therefore introduced. The author studies totally bounded and compact subsets of this new metric space, characterizes separability and provides a generalization of the ArzelĂ -Ascoli theorem for multi-valued functions.
