This work analyses a comprehensive mathematical model for the life cycle of dinoflagellates motivated by the environmental importance of an algal bloom, which can be harmful to water systems. The model includes equations for the subsequent stages of mature cysts, alga, new cysts, and resting cysts. Respectively, the spatial domain covers a realistic geographical situation bounded by a coastward, open sea, water-air interface, and ocean's bottom. Thus, the stated system of ordinary and partial differential equations takes into account both alga's states transformations and the respective spatiotemporal movements and distributions. For this system, the existence and uniqueness of the the solution is proven, and, additionally, the reappearance of the alga population stored as cysts is shortly discussed.
