The paper considers a second-order linear system satisfying nonlocal boundary conditions that allow to describe the dynamics of a population pyramid in a continuous way. These systems model the evolution of eggs, larva, female, and male individuals of pest insects taking into account two continuous variables: time and age. Under suitable assumptions, existence of (local and global) solutions is shown using Banach fixed point theorem. Numerical simulations of solutions are also discussed.
