This paper discusses the nonlinear Schrödinger Maxwell-Bloch equation with a perturbation. By virtue of the Darboux and Joukowski transformation, three kinds of \(N\)-order breathers are obtained. The propagation and interaction of the breathers are studied. The spectrum parameter determines the types of the breathers and has an effect on the breathers syncronization/asynchronization. Breather asychronization is consistent with theories for relations of modulation instability and rogue waves. Modulation instability is also discussed in the paper.
