The authors consider surface waves propagating in a thin vertically inhomogeneous layer overlying an elastic half space. The layer is subject to a normal external force. The effect of overlying layer is modelled through effective boundary conditions resulting from the presence of the thin layer. The problem is transformed in terms of the longitudinal and shear potential, and WKB approximations are sought. An example of a point impact force is considered as an illustration. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1477.93109].
