Banach limits are positive, shift-invariant linear functionals on \(\ell^{\infty}\) which map the constant sequence \((1,1,1,\dots)\) to 1.\par This paper concerns Banach limits and so called independent sequences. Monotonicity properties of Banach limits with respect to Hardy-Littlewood and logarithmic submajorization are also studied and some applications to noncommutative geometry are discussed.
