    Let \(A\) be a nonnegative selfajoint linear relation in a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H};\) \(\mathcal{S} \subset \mathcal{H}\) a closed subspace such that \(P_{\mathcal{S}} (\mathrm{dom}(A)) \subseteq \mathrm{dom} (A),\) where \(P_{\mathcal{S}}\) is the orthogonal projection of \(\mathcal{H}\) onto \(\mathcal{S}.\) It is shown that \(A\) admits a special matrix representation with respect to the decomposition \(\mathcal{S} \oplus \mathcal{S}^\bot.\) It is used to obtain formulas for the Schur complement of \(A\) on \(\mathcal{S}\) and for the \(\mathcal{S}\)-compression \(A_{\mathcal{S}}\) of \(A.\)
