A flow of viscous, incompressible, micropolar fluid in a two-dimensional domain of finite depth, in presence of gravity is considered. The surface wave problem leads to a free boundary problem, technically much more complicated that that for the Navier-Stokes equations. The global well-posedness of that problem is shown in case of horizontally periodic domain. Use of higher order energy functionals, and a Korn type inequality is essential in proofs.
