In this article, the author points out that biological data is rich, as are concepts and assumptions. Therefore, some people attempting to understand biological processes and systems is to use data to respond to concepts and assumptions, often using statistical methods to determine the consistency of assumptions with reality. However, as assumptions become more detailed, data becomes more complex, and the way in which systems are handled becomes increasingly challenging. Therefore, mathematical methods are becoming increasingly important in the fields of the life- and biomedical sciences. Mathematical models enable humans to better understand problems in the fields of life- and biomedical sciences, and make people to predict and control some future problems in the life- and biomedical sciences. The author of this article mainly discusses the research of mathematical models in biology from three aspects: (i) briefly discussing the different requirements for modeling and modelers in biology and physics; (ii) Some open issues in mathematical biology; (iii) Provide a purely mathematical approach, including theoretical physics, to study particular problems to life systems. Finally, the author presents some open problems and their challenges in mathematical biology, and explains that these open problems are of great significance to both biology and mathematics.
