This article discusses numerical approximation schemes for the Burgers equation. The approach relies on an implicit backward differentiation formula-spline which converts the original problem into a system of a number of difference equations which are further solved by means of the Newton and Thomas algorithms. The convergence analysis of the present method is discussed and several examples are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
