This book, which is based on the author's thesis [L'analyse combinatoire allemande. Paris: Université de Paris (PhD Thesis) (2011)], deals with a little known period in German mathematics: the German school of combinatorial analysis that is intimately connected with the work of Carl Friedrich Hindenburg (see [\textit{H. N. Jahnke}, Hist. Math. 20, No. 3, 265--284 (1993; Zbl 0784.01007)] for a shorter survey of this period). After a brief introduction reflecting on the historiography of combinatorial analysis and a chapter on the history of the binomial and the multinomial theorems, the author addresses the emergence (Chapter 3), the consolidation (Chapter 4) and the decline (Chapter 5) of German combinatorial analysis.
