In this paper, the author investigates the stability of solutions of a mathematical model of a two-layer ocean away from the Equator in the case of a piecewise constant eddy viscosity. Detailed analysis of investigated mathematical model bases on a logarithmic matrix norm. Also the paper contains the analysis of three different parameter-dependent eddy viscosity profiles and computations of bounds of solutions to the corresponding problems.
