It is a long standing problem how to determine whether the commutant of a Moufang loop is a normal subloop. The author studies the multiplication group of a Moufang loop using the technique of transversals, developped by Niemenmaa and Kepka. A necessary and sufficent condition for the commutant to be normal is obtained in a language of commutators in the multiplication group.
