Summary: Production planning is essential for every production system. Production planning is defined as allocating available resources to be processed through operations. The purpose of production planning is to optimise costs of the production system. In this article, we first provided a mathematical model in which enhancing the performance of workers and maintenance and repair of machines are considered. The model follows the following objectives: minimising the costs associated with the holding and backorders, enhancing the performance of workers, maintenance and repair of machines, wages, machines' use cost and the cost of changing the machine usage. Subsequently, the model was solved using GAMS optimisation software. Given the problem solving complexity, this problem is presented as NP-hard problems. Thus, a genetic algorithm was presented to solve the problem. The results illustrate that genetic algorithm is efficient and effective.
