In the three-dimensional Euclidean space, let \(K\) be a convex body with interior points, let \(\ell\) be a line and \(P\) a plane transversal to \(\ell\). It is proved that \(K\) has a planar section \(Q\) such that the area of the projection of \(Q\) to \(P\) along \(\ell\) is no less than half the area of the projection of \(K\) to \(P\) along \(\ell\). The factor \(1/2\) is optimal, but can be improved if one is allowed to choose the direction of \(\ell\).
