The authors investigate sufficient conditions in terms of the operator coefficients of two pencils which guarantee the same essential spectrum. Four kinds of essential spectra are considered, the Fredholm essential spectrum, the upper and the lower semi-Fredholm essential spectrum and the semi-Fredholm essential spectrum.
