In this book an account of non-perturbative effects in the Standard Model is given, which is directed in particular towards Quantum Chromodynamics and Electro-Weak Theory. As is well known, in both theories there are problems, which cannot be treated and solved by using perturbation theory. In QCD we need to achieve a better understanding of hadron physics at low momenta, in EWT the breaking of initial symmetries. In his book Arbuzov shows how non-perturbative effects can be obtained and treated in the framework of effective interactions. One example is the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Everything is based on compensation equations, first introduced by Bogoliubov. The Higgs sector also plays a significant role as well as experimental results obtained at LHC and TEVATRON. The text provides important background for students and researchers alike, since it gives a useful selection of current research topics in the field of quantum field theory.
