This paper is a study of the brackets via the unitary representation theory of \(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb R)\). This leads to a better understanding of the Rankin-Cohen brackets for modular forms. The results are used to study certain properties of deformed products. Two uniqueness results are also established.
