The author is mostly concerned with the values \(tr(A^{m+1})/tr(A^ m)\) and \(su(A^{m+1})/su(A^ m)\) for real (nonnegative, symmetric, etc.) matrices A, where ''su'' stands for the sum of all the elements of the matrix. Some new inequalities are presented. The ''trace'' and the ''sum'' formulas agree strikingly in many cases.
