The author presents a detailed study of the problem of stability of steady-state motion of various kinds of mechanical systems. Starting with scleronomous nonholonomic systems in generalized coordinates, particular choices of the forces are taken. Results of the analysis are presented in the form of theorems along with a few examples. Altogether the paper establishes the calculational base leading to theoretical conclusions on certain practical problems involving stability and motion.
