Let F denote a free group of finite rank in certain varieties which include the variety of polynilpotent groups of type \(n_ 1,...,n_ k\). Suppose that G and H are subgroups of F such that \(G\equiv H modulo^ 2F\) and \(G\cap^ 2F=H\cap^ 2F\). Then G and H are isomorphic groups.
