Applications of magnetic fluids in technology and medicine - use of magnetic fluids as a working medium in packers and separators, magnetic lubricants, creation and use of medicines on the basis of magnetic fluids - require solutions of hydrodynamic problems. In many cases the study of the properties of magnetic fluids is also connected with solution of hydrodynamic problems. It is not surprising that the major part of published works on magnetic fluids are works in hydrodynamics. Any problem of hydrodynamics begins with writing down the equations describing the medium in question. The equations used to describe the flows of the same magnetic fluid in many cases depend on the type of flow and the character of the magnetic field. This is connected primarily with the fact that a magnetic fluid is essentially a dispersive medium. Aggregates and structures can form in it, and there occur phenomena of the type of phase transitions. Thus, under the effect of a magnetic field and hydrodynamic flows the medium itself changes, its properties change and so also does the nature of its interaction with the magnetic field.
