The following result is proved. A simple Chevalley group (of normal or twisted type) over a finite field of characteristic 2 is generated by three involutions two of which are permutable if and only if the type of the group is different from \(A_ 2\), \(^ 2A_ 2\), \(A_ 3\) and \(^ 2A_ 3\).
