This paper provides a survey on local gamma factors, local converse theorems, and problems solving from those. A more details exposition is given in, as the author observes himself, in the paper by \textit{J. W. Cogdell} and \textit{I. I. Piatetski-Shapiro} [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 79, 157--214 (1994; Zbl 0814.11033) and J. Reine Angew. Math. 507, 165--188 (1999; Zbl 0912.11022)]. The author gives here, in the paper under review, a good introduction to the subjects.
