The article discusses the implementation of the Friedrich-Butscher perturbative method [\textit{A. Butscher}, Commun. Math. Phys. 272, No. 1, 1--23 (2007; Zbl 1220.83008)] for the solution of the inital value problem of general relativity. In particular, it is applied to constructing nonlinear perturbations of constant mean curvature initial data of constant negative sectional curvature and to prove their existence.
