Boundary control of string vibrations in a subcritical time under a medium resistance at the right end (Q2313383)

Vibrations of a one-dimensional elastic string described by the wave equation are considered. The boundary control acts at the one end of the string while at the other end condition containing a directional derivative is posed. The aim is to find the boundary control that lead the string from the initial state to the final one in time \(T\). The time \(T\) is assumed to be shorter than the critical one to assure the uniqueness of the solution. The problem is considered as the classical one. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a unique control are obtained. Moreover, the control is given in an explicit analytical form.
