Hilbert and Poincaré had very little contact, despite, or perhaps, because of their eminence. One occasion was when Hilbert invited Poincaré to give six lectures in Göttingen in spring 1909. Their correspondence reveals both what Hilbert wanted and Poincaré was prepared to offer, and as the author says, more about Poincaré's attitudes is revealed by the topics of his talks, two of which (on Hertzian waves and relativity) are reviewed here. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1411.01011].
