The author begins by telling history of solving cubic and quartic equations, then presents classical methods for solving such equations, and finally sketches a modern proof that a polynomial equation \(f(x) = 0\) is solvable by radicals if and only if the Galois group of \(f\) is solvable. All of this is well known, there are no references to primary sources (except to Cayley's Collected Papers (!)), and there are several annoying misprints.
