This book is one of the Springer series in mathematical tracts for master programs. Its purpose is to be mainly an introductory book to Shannon-Wiener-Boltzmann information with a sound basis in mathematics for further studies. Its content is that of the classical introductory books on information theory with some outlined prospects in the applications. As expected, it encompasses the foundations of information theory, information of discrete systems and continuous systems; and it deals in a detailed manner with discrete entropy, continuous entropy, Jaynes' maximum entropy principle, trans-information (or mutual information), entropy of dynamical systems with a flavor of quantum information. I have enjoyed reading more especially the chapter on Q-bits.
