An odd structure is a structure in the category of graded vector spaces whose maps have odd degrees. For example, the bar construction of a modular operad is an odd modular operad (and not a modular operad). Models of such structures depend on the choice of the monoidal structure of the underlying category of graded vector spaces. Here, two choices, qualified as ``natural'' and ``canonical'', are made: they give two different results, only one being correct. The author's conclusion is that ``even the systematic and careful use of the Koszul sign rule might lead to wrong results if one is unlucky''.
