The author has developed a three-dimensional computer program SPLASH that solves Navier-Stokes equations based on the arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) finite element method. The ALE formulation is an effective way for the analysis of moving boundary problems, and the SPLASH code can deal with free surface sloshing. A capillary model using a cubic spline function has also been developed herein. Several sample problems, e.g., free surface oscillation, vortex shedding, and capillary tube phenomena, are solved to verify the computer program. The numerical results are found to be in good agreement with theoretical values or experimental data. The SPLASH code has also been applied to an analysis of a free surface sloshing experiment in a simple shaped rectangular tank with forced circulation flow. The computational simulation predicts well the general behavior of the fluid flow inside the tank and the free surface behavior.
