This paper contains an unpublished letter of Sonya Kovalevskaya (1850- 1891) to Karl Weierstraß. The letter is from Stockholm, December 1883 and it reveals many aspects from Kovalevskaya's life including her involvement in the academic life in Sweden and the mass-media echos. In the paper there are also included other letters, more than sixty notes and a comprehensive bibliography. We mention a letter of Weierstraß to Kovalevskaya from December 27, 1883 which refers to a problem of partial differential equations considered in Kovalevskaya's dissertation.
