    Study of free surface problems for bodies moving in the heave and surge in inviscid irrotational flow leads to potential flow problems with Dirichlet boundary conditions, and the boundary integral equation breaks down at certain ``irregular'' frequencies. Large numerical errors arise in a frequency band width close to irregular frequencies. The paper uses a submerged source distribution thereby removing such singularities away from the computational domain. This results is a smoother and far more accurate solution of the problem with no extra computational cost. Numerical results on the added mass and damping coefficients are obtained for a floating hemisphere oscillating on heave and surge and for a Wigley hull ship in heave.
