The author considers the convergence of a scheme for an abstract second order quasilinear hyperbolic equation with variable operator coefficients in a Hilbert space. This scheme is a combination of the Galerkin scheme with respect to the space variables and a 3 level finite-difference scheme with weights with respect to the time variable. Asymptotic energy estimates for the error are obtained.
