The author constructs nonstandard (not necessarily orthogonal) spline wavelets on a nonuniform grid of a compact interval. These wavelets are defined as linear combinations of B-splines on two different grids. This method is similar to a lifting scheme. The unknown wavelet coefficients are chosen so that these wavelets have a prescribed number of vanishing moments, where the moments of B-splines are computed by divided differences. An application to matrix compression is given.
