The authors analyze the asymptotic behaviour of Heine-Stieltjes and van Vleck polynomials for a class of generalized Lamé differential equations connected with certain equilibrium problems on the unit circle. To accomplish this, they state the minimum energy problem on the unit circle associated with the Lamé equation in detail. In closing, they illustrate their results with some simple examples.
