Bifurcation phenomena in dynamical systems occur essentially due to nonlinearities. The paper at hand, however, studies bifurcations from a purely linear perspective, in the sense that the authors modify the shape of the state space of a linear system in order to obtain bifurcations which are analogous to the classical one-dimensional bifurcations (pitchfork, saddle node and transcritical bifurcation). The arguments involved come from elementary geometry.
