On the construction of a quadratic Lyapunov function with given properties (Q2434669)

A linear system of ordinary differential equations \[ \dot x_i=\sum_{j=0}^{n}a_{ij}x_j\quad(i=1,\dots,n) \] is considered. The author discusses the possibility of choosing the parameters of a quadratic Lyapunov function such that the validity of the inequality \(\dot V(x)<0\) is guaranteed with a given margin \(x\in\mathbb R^n, n\in N\). In the case \(n=2\), the choice of the parameters of \(V(x)\) can be performed by means of simple relations.
