The aim of this article is to give a precise definition of a ``discrete connection'' \(\mathcal{A}\), and to analyze some of its basic properties. Two main objects associated to \(\mathcal{A}_d\) are ``the discrete connection form'' and ``the discrete horizontal lift''. An important result is the existence of discrete connections on principal bundles equipped with an adequate Riemannian metric.
