An interaction index applied to a cooperative transferable utility game assigns to each coalition a real number interpreted as a measure of interaction between the players of this coalition. Hence, it generalizes the traditional value concept. Interaction indices corresponding to the Shapley value and to several other traditional probabilistic values have been defined in the literature. The author provides an overview of the recent research on interaction indices, and by modifying axioms employed by \textit{K. Fujimoto} et al. [Games Econ. Behav. 55, No. 1, 72--99 (2006; Zbl 1138.91324)] and introducing new axioms, the paper provides characterizations of known and of new classes of interaction indices.
