On the virtual Betti numbers of arithmetic hyperbolic 3-manifolds (Q2464443)

A group is said to be large if it has a subgroup of finite index which maps onto a free group of rank two. The main theorem in the paper under review states that a closed arithmetic hyperbolic \(3\)-manifold with virtually positive first Betti number in fact has infinite virtual Betti number. As a consequence such a manifold has large fundamental group.
