Cyclic coverings of the \(p\)-adic projective line by Mumford curves (Q2466360)

Let \(K\) be a discretely valued field of mixed characteristic \(p>0\), and let \(\varphi:X\to \mathbb{P}^1\) be a cyclic cover branched at \(4\) points which we may assume to be \(0, 1, \infty, \lambda\). One may moreover assume that \(| \lambda| =1\). The author gives a characterization of the curves \(X\) which are Mumford curves. A first necessary condition is that \(\varphi\) should be a Harbater--Mumford cover. A new condition is an upper bound on \(| \lambda-1| \). Furthermore, the author finds explicit generators for the Schottky group corresponding to \(X\).
